Cookies are small text files which sites visited by users send to their terminals, where they are stored to then be transmitted back to the same sites upon the next visit. Third party cookies, on the other hand, are configured by a different site to the one that the user is visiting. This is because there can be elements (images, maps, sounds, specific links to web pages from other domains, etc.) on each site that reside on servers other than that of the visited site.
